NEW CANAAN, CT – Gridiron Capital, LLC (“Gridiron Capital”) has been selected as the 2016 Private Equity Firm of the Year and Thomas A. Burger, Jr., its Managing Partner and Co-founder, The Game Changer of the Year in the private equity category by ACQ5 Global. This is the second year in a row that ACQ5 has honored Gridiron Capital for its accomplishments in private equity.
Gridiron Capital had a successful 2016 with the final close of an $875 million Gridiron Capital Fund III, two new platform investments, and the successful exits of two portfolio companies. With a newly raised fund, the firm is actively pursuing new investment opportunities with families, entrepreneurs and corporate carve-outs to expand its portfolio. In March 2016, the firm invested in Travel Nurse across America, a leading independent healthcare staffing firm focused exclusively on providing travel nurses to hospitals and healthcare facilities nationwide. In September, Gridiron also invested in LeafFilter, a leading provider of gutter protection solutions. Earlier in 2016, Gridiron exited ESP/SurgeX, a leading manufacturer of energy intelligence and power protection solutions, and Performance Health, a leading manufacturer and supplier of consumer branded health, wellness and self-care products. Both companies grew significantly since their respective initial investments and are well-positioned to continue growth and retain market leadership.
Working with families, entrepreneurs and management teams, the firm brings its tremendous experience to the companies it partners with to drive value creation. Tom Burger commented, “We combine years of operating expertise and financial resources with our management teams to develop and execute business plans and build market-leading companies. As a result of our own experiences of having been family business owners and management executives ourselves, we bring a unique perspective to investing and building businesses. We have an appreciation for the great value management teams bring given their knowledge of operating the business on a daily basis for years and years.”
The ACQ Global Awards are the single largest program of their kind in the market. Conducted annually and now celebrating their 11th year, the ACQ Global Awards seek to engage with the world’s business, innovation and technology leaders through a global recognition and knowledge building initiative that is underpinned by the program’s established framework. The program engages with organizations worldwide to benchmark the full spectrum of their products, services and initiatives and to review their business performance. Every year, ACQ5 conducts online surveys through its 119,000+ readers to make the selection of the final award winners. The main part of the evaluation, therefore, is obtained from the online surveys and reader votes. Details of the awards can be found here.
